UCL League Structure

18,000+ PLAYERS | 1,200+ TEAMS | 150+ DIVISIONS

Click here to register your team!

The United Clubs League (UCL) is bringing together a growing network of clubs from across Maryland, Washington, DC, and the surrounding region that share a commitment to providing meaningful, development-focused competition for players of all levels. In its inaugural season, the league has already generated strong interest from clubs representing many hundreds of teams and thousands of players across the U8–U19+ age groups. This early momentum reflects a shared vision among participating organizations: to create a competitive, accessible environment where clubs maintain a strong voice while players benefit from structured pathways aligned with the U.S. Soccer Development Architecture. Below, you will find the logos of the clubs that have already expressed interest in participating, highlighting the collaborative community that is helping shape the future of the league.

As the league continues to grow, the League Structure section provides a deeper look at how competition is organized across each age group. Through the dropdown menus below, explore how divisions are formed, how competition formats vary by age level, and how the league prioritizes player development, enjoyment, and safety at every stage. From small-sided introductory play in the youngest age groups to full-sided competitive pathways for older players, the United Clubs League is designed to deliver meaningful matches while keeping approximately 80% of games within a 40-minute drive — supporting clubs, players, and families with a high-quality experience and a practical travel model.

LEAGUE STRUCTURE

The following is based on the information provided by clubs either via the initial interest form or from subsequent direct communications indicating their desire to participate in the inaugural season of the UCL!

UCL Divisional Structure

The structure of the League’s divisions will vary by age and ability to best meet the needs of the players, teams, and clubs. The following draft outline provides more details:

  • Divisional placement
    • Divisions include:
      • State Divisions – Prioritizes a higher level of competition over geography.
        • Where possible, multiple divisions will be offered (e.g., State Division 1, State Division 2, etc.) with each Division reflecting the overall competitiveness of participating teams.
      • District Divisions – Prioritizes reduced travel times while maintaining meaningful tiers of competition.
        • North East District
        • North West District
        • Central East District
        • Central West District
        • South District
        • Where possible, multiple divisions will be offered (e.g., Central East District Division 1, Central East District Division 2, etc.) with each Division reflecting the overall competitiveness of participating teams.
        • Teams will request their preferred divisional placement during registration
          • Teams may request a division outside of where they are physically based. In these cases, teams may have a schedule more heavily weighted towards away games.
        • Prior to the start of the season, divisions will be released for feedback from club and team leadership.
        • Promotion and relegation between seasons will occur; however, teams may also request changes based on mitigating circumstances (e.g., roster changes, etc.).
        • In rare cases, teams may have games scheduled across districts (e.g., North East District may play North West District) at the same Division level (e.g., Division 1), with priority given to travel distance (e.g., against a team in a nearby District), to help ensure meaningful games.
