Maryland Invitational
General Information
Most Maryland ODP teams participate in the MD Invitational on Presidents Day weekend in late February each year. This event is hosted by the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association and draws ODP teams from multiple states from both within and outside of our Region.
For our younger players, the goal of this event is to help them come together in a competitive environment without pressure to win. This allows our staff to get to know the players better and helps us tailor the Spring training sessions to better meet the developmental needs of the players and age groups directly.
For our older players, the Maryland Invitational is a great opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of college coaches from across the Region.
All players within the ODP pool for each participating age group will travel to this event and play in each game. Participating age groups: Boys 12U-17U and Girls 12U-17U. Fees for event participation are included in the overall program cost (does not include travel).

International Travel
2025 ODP International Trips
MSYSA’s ODP aims to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels. This is why MSYSA offers ODP teams the chance to travel internationally and play soccer.
By traveling to Europe, players engage in a level of competition not found in the U.S. as well as learn a different style of play. All tours include training sessions, match play against top academy teams, stadium tours, and attendance at professional matches. Players also mingle with their opponents at pre-game and post-game socials, try new foods, see new sights and bond with their teammates. We are excited to announce our 25th year of international travel with WorldStrides Sports! What started years ago as a single tour to Scotland has grown into one of the most established international travel programs in the country.
All trips will take place from April 13 – April 21, 2025. All MSYSA sponsored international trips are designed and administered by WorldStrides Sports. Don’t let this opportunity to broaden your player’s horizon slip by! Destinations for 2025 are as follows:
- 2013/2012 Boys – Manchester, England
- 2013/2012 Girls – London, England
- 2011/2010 Boys – Barcelona, Spain
- 2011/2010 Girls – Barcelona, Spain
- 2009/2008 Boys – Dusseldorf, Germany and Amsterdam, Netherlands
- 2009/2008 Girls – Dusseldorf, Germany and Amsterdam, Netherlands
*ODP players are not required to travel internationally. Participation is strictly optional, and no player will be penalized if they do not take the trip. Costs are the same for players and family members.

Participant testimonials
“The trip was amazing and so well organized. Your folks on the ground that led the groups were excellent and so impressive. The schedule was full of wonderful events and the boys had an awesome time. Our family loved the trip and we are all so glad to have had the opportunity to go. Thank you so much for everything you do to make these trips. All of your hard work and organization really pays off on the user end when the trip goes as great as this one!” – Gabi Koeppel, Parent
“The MD ODP U13 Girls London trip was awesome and exceeded our expectations!! Thank you WorldStrides Sports for a great experience!!” – Allison A., Parent
“This trip far surpassed my expectations. The tour guide, Leonardo Calabretta, should be commended! He did a fantastic job with both the players and the parents. He was very accommodating and went over and above to make sure we were all happy. The places we visited were great and having the time to stop and learn the history of the area was fantastic. But for me the best part was being able to watch my son play soccer in Italy! Thank you for all of your hard work and efforts that went into planning this trip!” – Jim Hott, Parent
“Working with WorldStrides Sports has been a pleasure for me and our state association. From the pre-planning, actual trips adventures and post debriefings, I have always felt that our relationship with WorldStrides Sports has been an awesome experience in every facet of world travel. I’m always excited for the kids traveling to the European destinations and coming back with a lifetime of soccer memories.” – Mark Cantor, MSYSA President
“I was honored and humbled to have represented MSYSA and accompany the 2003 ODP Boys on their recent trip to Scotland. The boys traveled well, adjusted quickly to the new culture and soaked up the amazing soccer atmosphere. They were a very close group that worked hard at training every day, responded to Coach Prachar and rose to the challenges of the soccer at the friendly matches. WorldStrides Sports and our very experienced tour manager had planned every detail which made for a very successful trip. Players and parents alike all came back with new friends and lots of memories that will be with all of us for the rest of our lives.” – Laurie Lane, MSYSA Board Member
“You cannot and will not find a better company to deal with and handle all of your needs as a group to travel to any country. I have had the pleasure of using this company and participating in over 8 trips and not one wasn’t a ten and I mean that. They are professional, quick on their feet and use the best guides you can imagine. You will not go wrong using them.” – Herb Gainey
