Welcome to the 2016 Maryland Presidents Cup

Shaun Fleming - 2016 Presidents Cup Director

This US Youth Soccer event gives our teams the opportunity to compete at state, regional and national levels. For 2016, we have continued the U12 boys and girls bracket. It is broadly accepted that this age group is peaking in the player development process, and we feel it is an excellent opportunity for these teams to "test their mettle". The primary intention of this tournament is to engage the approximately two-thirds of our travel teams which are not as likely to win a state championship title.

The 2016 MSYSA Presidents Cup application is scheduled to become available on January 4, 2016 with applications closing on March 25, 2016.  The Presidents Cup draw is scheduled to occur on April 2, 2016.  The draw will be a Live Streaming event.

All games are scheduled to be played in scenic Hagerstown at the Hagerstown Soccer Club’s soccer park.  Please continue to check the MSYSA website for a complete schedule of dates and times.  Over the course of the tournament weekends, updates and alerts on scores, weather, schedule adjustments and other pertinent matters will be posted on our website as close to real time as possible. Also, it is extremely important to review and study the tournament rules found on the Presidents Cup page of the website.

We are very excited to bring this event to Maryland’s greater community of competitive soccer teams and promise you an environment of fun, great competition and sportsmanship. Remember! Your team’s hard work can earn it the distinguished privilege to play teams from other states in the 2016 Presidents Cup Regional Championship Tournament scheduled for May 28-30, 2016. We are pleased to announce that the Region I President’s Cup will be held at Reisterstown, Maryland.  U13-U17 Regional winners will then compete in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the National title in your age group.

We look forward to an overall superior soccer experience!

Important Presidents Cup Rule Change

Presidents Cup Qualifying Leagues

At the October 2014 MSYSA Executive Board meeting, a motion was made by the MSYSA Presidents Cup Committee that the 2015 MSYSA Presidents Cup rules be adopted.  As such, Rule 2.1.3., as listed in the 2014 Presidents Cup rules, would be eliminated.  This rule stated that “MSYSA will accept teams that play in a mixed US Youth Soccer and other US Soccer Federation member league as long as the team plays in a US Youth Soccer only division.”

The MSYSA maintains a strong sense of fairness and equity, and as such, considered the ramifications of limiting Presidents cup qualifying leagues.  It was agreed that since the opportunity to play in a winter and spring league was a viable option and that maintaining the integrity of the MSYSA Presidents Cup and the Presidents Cup Series was of extreme importance, that MSYSA would only consider leagues that consisted of USYSA-only teams as an MSYSA Presidents Cup qualifying league.  This motion was voted upon and passed by the MSYSA Executive Board.

Presidents Cup Qualifying Leagues

Presidents Cup Rule 2.1.3. reads "During the current seasonal year, all teams must play in a fall, winter, or spring affiliated MSYSA member sanctioned US Youth Soccer league.  The team must compete in at least a 4-team approved league during the current seasonal year in its State Association or with its State Association's permission in another State Association.  The league competition must consist of a minimum of one game against each of 3 different teams participating in the league."

It is important to note that only USYS/MSYSA cards and rosters are to be used for all teams seeking qualification into the Maryland Presidents Cup.

The below is a list of Maryland Presidents Cup qualifying leagues:
