13-Year-Old Maryland Goalkeeper Earns National Golden Glove Award

Christian Canales

WED, July 18, Glen Burnie, MD – Christian Canales, a 13-year-old Arundel Soccer Association goalkeeper, earned the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Golden Glove Award for the 14-and-under boys age group after the tournament in Westfield, Indiana, last weekend.

Canales is the starting keeper for the ASA PGSA Real Barza 2004 boys team, which finished second in the country after a tough championship match against the Central California Aztecs.

“Players selected to receive each award earned the recognition through their play at the 2018 National Presidents Cup, which took place July 12-15 at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Ind. In each of the 13U through 18U Boys and Girls age groups, the Golden Boot is awarded to the top goal-scorer and the Golden Glove is awarded to the goalkeeper with the most Best 11 votes,” US Youth Soccer’s official press release states.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
