The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Cycle of Courses in Maryland

Cycle of Courses in Maryland

The Maryland State Youth Soccer's Coaching Education department is excited to be able to host courses of varying levels for coaches throughout the year. For coaches to be able to plan in advance, the information below may be used as a guide. Unfortunately as we depend on youth soccer clubs across the state to host these courses, planning into the future is difficult at best.

After reviewing the available courses in the US Soccer Learning Center (LC) linked below, if you are interested in hosting a course, please click here for more information!

Cycle of courses by course level:

  • Grassroots
    • In Person Blended format (2 hours virtual classroom with educator, 2 hours field session)
      • Average numbers by month:
        • Sep (0), Oct (4), Nov (4), Dec (10), Jan (0), Feb (8), March (10), Apr (0), May (0), Jun (8), Jul (4), Aug (10).
    • Online only (2 hours self-led video)
  • USSF D Course
    • Typically these are offered each quarter (in 3 groups each time).
  • USSF C Course
    • Typically these are offered 1-2 times per year, overlapping the Spring and Fall seasons.

US Soccer’s Learning Center (LC)

The LC allows coaches to register for courses, take part in online courses, create session plans with an online graphics tool, access an archive of training sessions, and much more!

Coaching Education courses are currently being hosted at all course levels. Most courses are proceeding in a blended format - this means that any classroom work is virtual while field sessions still occur in person.

For the most up to date course list, please the link to the US Soccer LC below!

Note that courses mostly occur between seasons, if you do not see a course that you are interested in taking, please contact your club as ask them to host one!

How to Advance as a Coach

A combination of three of the eight Grassroots Licenses (replacing the E and F Licenses) now represent the prerequisites to progress to the U.S. Soccer D License.

New coaches must complete a minimum of three grassroots courses, in the form of two in-person courses and one online course:

  • Two in person courses of any level (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11)
  • One online course of any level (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11)

Previously licensed candidates who have already completed or begun to take the E or F License courses will have the following opportunities to use those certifications toward the D License prerequisites:

  • US Soccer E License + Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module
  • US Soccer F License + Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module + two in-person licenses
