Membership Information And Application There are approximately 6,000 soccer coaches in the state of Maryland. There is no single organization that brings coaches at all levels together in a single entity. The formation of the Maryland Soccer Coaches Association (MSCA) by MSYSA will create the first statewide organization for all soccer coaches, from those coaching the youngest children to college and professional coaches.
The purpose of a statewide soccer coaches association is to provide an organization where members at all levels of the game, with the widest diversity of backgrounds and experiences, will share their experiences and learn from each other. Membership in the Maryland Soccer Coaches Association will provide members with several principal benefits.
Through his extraordinary contacts throughout the world, MSYSA Director of Education and Training, Graham Ramsay, has acquired an exceptional volume of soccer publications and has obtained permission to reprint numerous articles written by top international level coaches. The result is that MSYSA has the ability to publish a coaches' newsletter containing instructional articles of a higher quality, and greater variety, than available anywhere else in the U.S. Initially, there will be four (4) issues per year, expanding to six (6) issues as membership grows.
Another benefit of membership is special coaching clinics, beyond the licensing courses, designed for association member coaches at all levels. MSYSA's International Soccer Weeks, which on numerous occasions have had youth, high school and college coaches attending the same week, have demonstrated how coaches involved at different levels can benefit from the opportunity to interact in a learning environment. Included among such special clinics will be Graham's proposal to bring in a major international level coach on two weekend's each year.
There will also be two general meetings per year for members of the association which will combine business, social and educational functions, permitting more informal dialogue and discussion.
Membership is open to any coach, former coach or future coach. Included in the organizational concept is the intent to foster the opportunity for youth players to get involved in coaching. A special "youth membership", with special activities to encourage players to become involved in coaching at a younger age, is featured. The Initial Annual Membership Fee is $25.00 per adult member and $15.00 per youth member. Coaches who join before December 31, 1999, will be Charter Members and receive priority for MSCA activities. MSYSA clubs are encouraged to cover the cost for their youth members as an investment in their club's future.
To join the Maryland Soccer Coaches Association simply complete the Application for Membership on the bottom of this page and return to the MSYSA office with a check for the appropriate membership fee. Before completing the Form, make copies and give them to your coaching colleagues.
