President Ben Neil called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The Minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion made, seconded and carried to accept the Minutes and be published on the website. Presidents Report: The following are the highlights of President Neils report: Ben announced that due to family obligations, Doug Schuessler resigned his position as an At Large Representative. Ben nominated Regina Clapp, the NCSL representative assigned to the MSYSA Board meetings, as his replacement. Motion made, seconded and carried to accept Regina to fill Doug Schuesslers term of office. Discussion of U18 boys Maryland Cup ensued. Virtual Mall Fundlink Ben will sign the agreement tonight. A percentage of all purchases made through the mall will go to MSYSA and the club where the purchase originated. NSCAA Distance Learning link in place. Nominating Committee, chaired by Mark Molloy, will issue its report 45-days prior to the AGM, as required by the By-laws. The G Course is set for May 6 at Kenwood H.S. TOPSoccer Symposium Pam Yurg and Colleen ONeil Yanchulis will attend on April 21. Kicks Against Breast Cancer Motion made and seconded to donate $3000 to the Kicks Tournament. Motion carried with two abstentions. MSYSA Golf Tournament Due to the fact that Eric McAleer would be traveling with ODP foreign trips, David Gould would be coordinating the golf tournament in Erics absence. We need sponsors, golfers and donations of gifts to make this event a success. 1st Vice President: Arlene Rodway reported that Maryland Cup schedules are up on the website for the first round to be held on April 14th at Poolesville Polo Grounds and Harford County Polo Grounds. 2nd Vice President: Jack Barnold reported on the parents meeting that was held in conjunction with the upcoming Boys ODP trip to Scotland. In addition to written reports, the Girls ODP have the fields in order for practices. Keith Tabatznik has made a presentation to Region 1 regarding the ODP camp structure. Jack presented the resume of Wes Hulman as a 92 girls coach. Herb Gainey had sent his recommendation with the resume. A motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the new coach for the ODP program, pending the usual background check. 3rd Vice President: Cliff Walcott had nothing new to report. Treasurers Report: Jeff Hess presented a P/L statement of the finances of MSYSA. After some questions, the report was accepted. Registrar: No report. Affiliations: Applications for affiliations were presented from two prospective clubs: The Bayshore Soccer Club of Maryland (Kent Island) and Back River Youth Soccer (Essex). Motion was made, seconded and carried to accept these two clubs into MSYSA. Regional Commissioners: Colleen ONeil Yanchulis reported on DDP and asked who would pay for the background checks of the coaches. The answer given was that MSYSA would pay for the background checks. The announcement was made of Inter-regional play dates: June 16 or 17, preferably late-afternoon or evening. The end of the program would culminate in a mini-camp or other format, on Saturday, June 23 with location to be determined. Colleen pointed out the South region had published their entire schedule and curriculum on line and asked the Board to take note. Director of Coaching: Graham was attending a meeting with the Frederick County Youth Soccer League. Jerry gave the following report: MSYSA has been granted the C Course, to be held at the SoccerPlex August 4-12. In addition, from May 29 June 3, MSYSA will host the National Youth License course at Carroll Community College. The MSYSA coaching courses are proving to be very popular, with 221 having signed up for the E course, 68 for the F course, 70 for the D course, and another 18 for an E course in June. Risk Management: Mike Sidlak reported attending the VA Workshop. There are two warnings to catastrophic injuries that need to be posted on our website concerning heat related illnesses and head injuries. Marketing Director: Rob Smith reported that he was would be working to get the eNews system running again and get an Email blast out for upcoming MSYSA events. Other Issues: Jeff raised a question regarding 8 v 8 for U11 and U12 and a question of goal size. The issue was tabled and will be referred to Graham Ramsay, our Director of Coaching, for his recommendation. The MSYSA meeting then went into Executive Session. The meeting was reconvened at 9:10. Good of Game: Louise Waxler announced that at the Kicks Tournament on April 14 at the SoccerPlex there would be two featured games: 4:00 UMD vs. VA Men; 6:00 North Carolina vs. Virginia Women.
