In 2001, MSYSA established a new award to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding service to the MSYSA in a volunteer capacity.  The award was named in memory of Erik Quisgard, a long time MSYSA volunteer who suddenly passed away in February 2001.  In naming its Volunteer of the Year Award after Mr. Quisgard, the MSYSA Executive Board established the standard by which future recipients would be assessed.  Erik was the epitome of an outstanding volunteer.  Not only did he always ask what he could do for others, but remarkably, he never asked for anything in return nor did he worry about what his efforts would gain him personally.  To Erik, no task was too small or beneath his involvement.  Through the years he served in numerous capacities, starting out as the manager for his son’s team and then contributing countless years as a State Cup volunteer.  After serving as a MSYSA officer, he remained involved volunteering as the administrator of the North Region District Development Program, a task he was actively serving in during the time of his death.

To nominate an individual for the Erik Quisgard Volunteer of the Year Award, and Coach of the Year, MSYSA members should complete the nomination form included with this article and follow all instructions to ensure consideration.

Nomination forms and supporting information should be submitted to the MSYSA office no later than May 23, 2008 for consideration for the 2008 award.  Presentation of the 2008 Erik Quisgard Volunteer of the Year Award and Coach of the Year will be made on Sunday, June 1, at the MSYSA Annual General Meeting.
