Chevrolet Parent of the Year Award
Jill Fowkes Selected as Second MSYSA Chevrolet Parent of the Year
The recipient of the 2000 Chevrolet Parent of the Year award is Jill Fowkes of the Hagerstown Soccer Club. Jill was nominated by Joe Burger. She was cited for her efforts to establish the Hagerstown Stingrays, a girls' travel team. She organized the team's phone tree, arranged the schedule for water and snacks for players, solicited other parents for team functions and responsibilities, such as field lining and transportation, and coordinates team fundraising activities.
In his nomination submission, Joe Burger stated that "If it was not for Jill Fowkes, our program would not exist for our children. Jill operates at a truly amazing level of energy and enthusiasm, which is contagious. She remains the backbone, heart and soul of the Hagerstown Stringrays girls soccer team." Another team parent stated "Jill Fowkes gives a whole new meaning to the term 'Soccer Mom.'"
