HOW TO AFFILIATE
1. Provide a letter of intent stating that you want to become a direct affiliate member of the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association. Provide the following:
- A description of the organization, the types of programs it runs, type of teams (recreation and/or travel), leagues in which its teams play and the current number of players and teams it expects to have participating during the seasonal year (September 1 – August 31)
- A list of the organization’s officers and directors, with addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. The list should identify the organization’s principle contact person.
- A copy of the organization’s By-laws (see sample below) or other governing documents. Please note: Two specific provisions must be included in such documents:
a) That the organization agrees to abide by all rules, policies and regulations of MSYSA, US Soccer and US Youth Soccer.
b) That the organization will register annually with MSYSA all players, coaches, team officials and teams, which participate in the organization’s soccer programs, and pay the appropriate registration fees. (This is a requirement imposed on State Associations by US Soccer and US Youth Soccer. For your information, a portion of the MSYSA registration fee goes to US Soccer and US Youth Soccer).
- A check for the appropriate Affiliation Fee which is based upon the number of teams/players participating in the organization’s soccer programs. This is a one-time fee, provided that the organization has at least one representative at the MSYSA Annual General Meeting. (The Affiliation Fee is determined as follows: 1-15 teams = $60.00, 16-40 teams = $115.00, 41 or more teams = $170. For organizations with recreational players the Affiliation Fee is calculated this way: 15 players = one team).
Once the above information, documents and check are received by MSYSA, the request for affiliation will be presented at the next meeting of the MSYSA Executive Board, which meets on the third Wednesday of each month. If all documents are in order, affiliation will be approved and the organization notified.
